Government will create construction schedules for each facility at Chernobyl NPP
The Government will create schedule for each facility at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, because of some construction sites are extremely slow. The Senior Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Andriy Klyuyev said after the meeting on the prospects of further decommissioning the Chernobyl NPP.
"I ordered to prepare a network schedule for each facility, to clearly assign the implementation responsibility of the construction process and sources of funding. We will agree these schedules with the EBRD and the European Commission. Then they will be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and than they would be put under severe control. If the schedules would not be implemented – the responsible would be punished" - Andriy Klyuyev said.
The Senior Vice Prime Minister enumerated the main construction projects being currently implemented in the Chernobyl area: solid waste processing plant, liquid waste processing plant, and storage of used nuclear fuel "SUNF-2".
In addition, Andriy Klyuyev underlined that the building of new safe confinement has been started and final draft project, being prepared by international organizations, is actually completed.
"The final project cost is 870 million Euros. Shortage of funds is 550 million Euros, but it does not prevent the start of construction. October 5th we will meet in Kiev with the EBRD and decide how to finish the construction of new confinement"- the Senior Vice Prime Minister said.
In addition, Andriy Klyuyev reminded that President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych announced next year the Year of Chernobyl. He said that in April an international conference under UN auspices, where the Government plans to resolve all questions about the continuation and completion of this facility, will have place.
