EBRD will give EUR 200 Mn For Upgrade of Hydro Power Stations
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development mulls allocating a sovereign loan of up to EUR 200 mn to the Ukrhydroenerho, a hydroelectric power generating company, for upgrading seven of its power stations.
The Bank says the project aims at upgrading the hydro- and electro-mechanical equipment at the seven power plants that account for a half of hydroenergy capacity in Ukraine. The project is part of a major rehabilitation program of all Ukrhydroenerhos 4,600MW generation assets, split in 10 hydro power plants most of which were commissioned in the 1960-80s. The rehabilitation will result in improved environmental impact, reliability and operating costs of the hydro power plants through installation of new equipment. The state owns 100% of shares in UkrHydroEnerho via the national Energy Company of Ukraine.
