Yushchenko: Naftohaz Ukrainy, RosUkrEnergo agree to restructure part of gas debt

Naftohaz Ukrainy, the national joint-stock company, and the RosUkrEnergo company have agreed on the restructure of a part of the gas debt, President Viktor Yushchenko told a meeting with the G8 ambassadors and representatives of the European Commission.Yushchenko said that the last part of the debt will be paid in January-March 2009.The president hopes that soon, the contract for gas delivery to Ukraine in 2009 will be signed.He said that the energy carriers will be uninterruptedly transited to Europe via the territory of Ukraine.

On December 23, Yushchenko said that the National Bank of Ukraine used the currency reserves to redeem the gas debt of the Naftohaz Ukrainy to RosUkrEnergo.Yushchenko noted that Naftohaz Ukrainy has already paid about US $ 1 bn out of its debt.Dmytro Firtash, owns 45% of the shares of the RosUkrEnergo Company, on December 21 said the debt the Naftohaz Ukrainy national oil and gas company for the natural gas supplies will be US $ 3.2 bn by the end of 2008.The Oschadbank state-owned bank has given the Naftohaz Ukrainy national joint stock company an UAH 6 bn loan to settle imported gas payments.

RosUkrEnergo said the debt of Naftohaz Ukrainy was US $ 2 bn together with penalty provision and supplies in December.
