Ukraine plans to save 6 billion cubic meters of gas through the transfer of district heating plants from gas to coal

Ukraine wants to transfer all district heating plant from gas to coal, this will save about 6 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko said this at a briefing for representatives of foreign media. "We will transfer our entire district heating plant to coal. This will take about a year, but we have already started this work"- he said.

The Minister noted that to implement this program we have to pass a law allowing privatization of district heating plants and transfer them into concessions.

Yuriy Boyko said that Ukraine agrees with Chinese partners on introduction of appropriate technology. "This technology we are developing together with Chinese partners. It will give us a savings of about 6 billion cubic meters of gas a year"- the Minister said.
