“Ukraine obtained the best and lowest price for Russian natural gas,” Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko told a briefing today.

“Ukraine, except Belarus, has the lowest gas price in the world for 2009. If we take the ratio of transit cost and fuel gas cost used for pumping, I can claim that for Ukraine this ratio is the best,” the Prime Minister stated.

Yulia Tymoshenko noted that Ukraine and Russia had agreed about the formula of calculating gas price for 10 years in advance. “It won’t be necessary any more to grovel at somebody's feet and beg for a special price, special terms for Ukraine, no need to think every Christmas and New Year what gas crisis Ukraine will face,” she stressed.

Yulia Tymoshenko also stated that she would have signed under no circumstances the contracts which could back the interests of Ukraine in second place.
