Ukraine, EU launch talks on Ukraine’s accession to European Energy Community

Ukraine and the European Union intend to launch the talks on the Ukraine’s accession to the European energy community on November 25, Vice Prime Minister for the European integration Hryhoriy Nemyria told reporters.

«The talks on Ukraine’s accession to the European energy community should start on November 25,» Nemyria said.

The vice prime minister said Ukraine is the first country-participant of the European neighbouring policy the EU will launch these talks with.

Ukraine’s joining the European energy community envisages achievement of the comprehensive correspondence of the Ukrainian legislation to the EU standards in the energy sector, he said.

During the Ukraine-EU summit, the EU and Ukraine decided to launch the talks on Ukraine’s joining the contract on the Energy community.

On December 1, 2005, Ukraine and the European Union agreed to gradually integrate their energy markets to raise the security of the energy carriers signing the memo on the mutual understanding while cooperation in the energy sector.

The Energy community is the organization aiming to extend the internal European energy market to the southeast.

The major task of the community is the organization of relation between the parties and creation of the legal and economic frameworks for the operation of the energy grids.

The agreement on the energy community was signed by 34 European countries.

The framework document of the Energy community is the contract on the Energy community, which took effect on July 1, 2006.
