Ukraine, EU Interested In Creation Of Trilateral Consortium For Managing Ukrainian Gas Transport System
Ukraineand the European Union are interested in creation of a trilateral consortium for managing the Ukrainian gas transport system (in partnership withUkraine, EU andRussia), Kostiantyn Yeliseyev, head ofUkraine’s delegation to the European Union, has announced in an interview with Ukrainian News agency.
«The European Union is interested in participation in creation of a joint consortium withUkraineandRussia, which is a tripartite format, but, of course,Brusselsunderstands that political will of the Ukrainian and Russian parties is required to engage the EU in this project… The Ukrainian party is interested in involving the European Union in this project,» he said.
The ambassador remarks, the EU’s interest to the tripartite format of consortium was confirmed during his meetings with European Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger.
«A shining example of sincere interest is that the EU ready to promote mobilization of international financial institutions’ resources for the modernsiation ofUkraine’s gas transport system,» added Yeliseyev.
In his opinion, the EU understands value of the Ukrainian gas transport system and importance of their participation in such a project.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported,Russia’s Ambassador toUkraine, Mikhail Zurabov, on December 21, 2012 saidRussiawas studying the possibility of establishment of a bilateral consortium to manage the Ukrainian gas transport system.
Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has criticized the European Union for its lack of interest in modernization of the Ukrainian gas transport system.
In mid-October, the Cabinet of Ministers promised to give full support to companies participating in modernization of the Ukrainian gas transport system.
