Ukraine continues to negotiate with Russia on 2009 gas contract revision

The Government of Ukraine continues to negotiate with Russia to abolish the gas contracts concluded in January 2009. Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said this at the program «Big Politics» on Inter TV channel and stressed that the current contract signed by the previous government, is extremely disadvantageous for Ukraine.

The Prime Minister said that the formula that underlies the calculation of gas prices, does not meet current market conditions and needs of the Ukrainian economy. «We urge on Russian partners to revise too disadvantageous deal for Ukraine», said the Prime Minister.

However, he noted that due to Kharkiv agreements criticality of the issue for Ukraine was removed, so the Government has time to find new arguments, insistently urge on the Russian leadership the necessity and inevitability of the contract revision.
