Ukraine attracts 700 million euros in “green”energy

Over the past three years, more than 700 million euros have been invested in the alternative energy sources’ development in Ukraine according to Sergey Savchuk, the head of State Agency of Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine.

“More than 700 million euros of investments, attracted over the last three years to the generation of "clean" energy is an indicator of a favorable regulatory field and an attractive market with huge resource potential”- highlighted Savchuk. As he said the introduction of stimulating “not from gas” heat tariffs that are pegged to euro and possibility to draft long-term agreements of purchase and sale of energy according to the green tariff are among the main achievements.

Savchuk said that there are 10 million tons of household waste annually in Ukraine. 3.5 million Gcal of heat and 1.2 billion kWt of energy can be generated from it instead of 700 million cubic meters of gas each year. To realize such a potential of State Agency of Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine an economic model of the plant for the production of energy from waste was developed.

Besides, the State Agency of Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine is working on a mechanism to stimulate energy efficiency in energy production sector.
