Ukraine and Austria will collaborate in energy efficiency

Ukraine and Austria will collaborate in energy efficiency. On February, 17 was held official signing of Memorandum of understanding in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energies between NAER and Austrian Energy Agency (AEA). From Ukrainian side Memorandum was signed by Head of NAER, Mr. Sergiy Yermilov, from the side of AEA – by deputy Manager of AEA Herbert Lehner.

Mr. Yermilov is assured that after signing of Memorandum relationships between Ukraine and Austria proceeded to a new stage. The document defined main priorities of collaboration development between NAER and AEA. Particularly, further collaboration foresees founding energy efficiency centers for training and professional development of managers and technicians in the field of energy efficiency and energy saving, and also for public awareness development. Mr Yermilov noted that such energy efficiency centers will be founded in all big cities of Ukraine.

According to the Head of NAER, Ukrainian Government undertook an ambitious liabilities – to reduce energy intensity of national GDP on 20% and to enhance quota of renewable energy in energy balance of Ukraine to 5%. “It is quite clear that it is impossible to achieve this goal without external investments. Progress in collaboration between Ukraine and Austria will make possible to establish transparent conditions for investments in sector of energy efficiency of Ukraine, and also will encourage Austrian companies to come for realization of concrete projects.

After Memorandum signing ceremony was held joint seminar of sharing experience concerning measures aimed at promoting energy efficiency. Experts of NAER and AEA shared information about topical problems in energy efficiency in Ukraine and Austria, particularly concerning energy strategies of countries, programs and measures aimed at energy efficiency promotion, urgent problems of popularization of energy efficiency and advantages of renewable energy recourses utilization.

Sides contracted to direct efforts at municipal heating refinement by implementing new technologies and equipment, particularly, using bioenrgy and cogeneration technologies. Common efforts of NAER and AEA will also be aimed at improving regulatory in the field of energy efficiency, alternative and renewable energy sources by adopting it according to requirements of European legislation.
