Mykola Azarov: Ukraine expects more active EU position on the revision of gas contracts with Russia
Unfortunately, the European Union has been inactive in the case of modernization of the Ukrainian gas industry, in particular, our GTS - the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said this at a meeting of the Government on 5 December 2012.
According to him, Ukraine is a member of the European Energy Charter and faithfully fulfills its obligations.
"However, Ukraine's expectation that, in connection with this Charter, the EU takes a more active role in terms of our negotiations for revision of one-side agreement with Russia and participation in gas transit consortium - these expectations have not been realized yet - said Mykola Azarov. - And this is at a time when all the experts almost unanimously recognize that the Ukrainian GTS is the most reliable and cheapest route for transportation of Russian gas to Europe".
He stressed that Ukraine has the right to expect more support from European countries in this regard.
