Government insists on reviewing the gas deal between Ukraine and Russia
The Government of Ukraine supports the review of the gas deal signed with the Russian Federation in January 2009. Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said this today while opening a Government’s meeting.
«We aim to review the extremely disadvantageous for Ukraine deal with the Russian Federation and we will be trying hard to convince our Russian partners of the need to do so», stressed Mykola Azarov.
The Prime Minister recalled that under this bonding agreement the gas price for Ukraine was determined by the formula, which provides a quarterly price increase. Thus, according to him, in the first quarter of this year the gas price totalled 330 USD per one thousand cubic meters and quarterly the price was increasing approximately by 25 USD. That means, in the fourth quarter it would be about 390 USD per one thousand cubic meters.
«This formula continues to operate. That is the fact that can not be refuted», the Head of the Government emphasized and added that such a price would have meant the disaster for the economy. «Only Kharkiv agreements signed by the Presidents of Ukraine and Russia let us the gas price reduction by 100 USD per 1 thousand cubic meters, and let the «ends meet», gave us possibility to avoid the budgetary and economic collapse», said Mykola Azarov.
