Gas price might not change in 2009, says ex-minister

Former fuel and energy minister, MP Yuriy Boiko, the Regions Party, believes that the price of gas supplied from Russia to Ukraine may remain in 2009 at the current level of $179.5 per 1,000 cubic meters due to a global drop in crude oil prices.

"The price of gas is really pegged to that of oil. There is a special formula. In other words, gas price depends on those of fuel oil and gasol, which in their turn depend on the price of crude. We indeed may expect that if this tendency remains, if the oil price does not change, the gas price should not exceed $179.5 per 1,000 cubic meters," he said on Radio Era Thursday
