Arseniy Yatsenyuk appealed to the EU to check Russia's actions regarding cutting gas supplies to EU states

Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk appealed to the European Union to start checking the actions of the Russian Federation directed to reducing gas deliveries to the EU member states. He announced at a meeting with the President of the Republic of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves on Thursday, September 11.

The Head of the Ukrainian Government believes that such actions of the Russian Federation appear “a distinct sign of Russia being untrustworthy as a gas supplier".

He informed that the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry had addressed the European Commission with a request to start checking these actions of Russia.

"Russia has always used gas as one of its weapons," said the Prime Minister of Ukraine.

"The idea of Russian "Gazprom" is clear: to stop the reverse flow. They want to freeze us in the winter," said Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

He expressed belief that European partners would respect their commitments, and added Ukraine had already made the prepayment.

"For us it is a matter of national security", - stressed the Head of Government.
