A Dixi Group expert: higher education in the energy sector is not conformant with the spirit of the age

While the sector is being transformed, specialized education is falling behind

The sector of specialized higher education in the energy field loses and fails to perform its functions, even comparing to secondary education. It was the opinion which Dixi Group expert Denys Nazarenko expressed during the round table “Energy and education: in search of synergy”.

“The energy sector is being reformed according to European rules, transforming itself from centralized to distributed, self-regulating systems, while higher education in the energy sector is not conformant with the spirit of the age,” Mr. Nazarenko believes.

The expert pointed out that the 2018 report on the progress in implementing the Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2035 mentions training and retraining of specialists perhaps only in the context of English language courses for the staff of the ministry concerned.

“In the Strategy implementation report for 2018, Ukraine’s roadmap mentions training and education only with regard to English courses for specialists of the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection,” the expert said.

According to Denys Nazarenko, the only area in energy education which the stakeholders do not deem necessary to improve is preparation of energy balances, which is handled by the Ministry.

The round table “Energy and education: in search of synergy” was organized by DiXi Group under USAID’s Energy Sector Transparency project.
