The first International Conference “Nuclear Power Complex of Ukraine: International Cooperation, Investment Opportunities and Nuclear Fuel Cycle”, organized by Energoatom NNEGC, was successfully held on 24-25 July 2010 in Kyiv.
Conference purpose was to expand international cooperation between Ukrainian and foreign companies and provide an opportunity to share information and experience for further development of nuclear power engineering in Ukraine.
International Conference was officially opened by Mr. Yuriy Nedashkovskiy, President, Energoatom NNEGC, participants were welcomed on behalf of Mr. Volodymyr Lytvyn, Speaker of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and Mr. Anriy Klyuyev, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine.
International Conference was attended by 240 participants from 12 countries, among them: managers and specialists of nuclear power enterprises, engineering companies, equipment producers and representatives of European Commission, international financial institutions and banks, governmental and public organizations. Generally there were people who are directly connected to nuclear power.
In a framework of two-day Conference four round tables on most actual issues of nuclear power were held, namely: Perspectives of Nuclear Power Development in Ukraine, Nuclear Fuel Cycle, Financial and Investment Issues of Nuclear Power Development, Social and Economic Aspects of Nuclear Power Development.
The core of key speakers of the conference represented world leading companies: Energoatom NNEGC and its structural subdivisions, Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, Nizhny Novgorod Engineering Company Atomenergoproekt OJSC, World Nuclear Association, Tvel OJSC, Morgan Stanley, AECL, Holtec International, Iberdrola engineering and construction, Euratom and leading Russian and Ukrainian scientific centers and others.
Bilateral meetings and negotiations were held in the framework of business program resulting in signing cooperation contracts and agreements.
At the Closing Plenary Sessions, the moderators of round tables pointed out the high level of presentations and event organization and also confirmed that all Conference goals were achieved, namely: discussion of perspectives of Nuclear Power Complex of Ukraine using the opportunities of International Cooperation; creation of favorable investment climate for nuclear industry, expansion of international cooperation between Ukrainian and foreign companies. The Conference provided a platform for sharing information and experience for further development of Nuclear Power Complex of Ukraine.
Ms. Natalya Shumkova, Deputy Minister of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine suggested holding the Conference on annual basis.
